So after a long week and the weather looking fine on the Friday evening, I headed out towards the port hills which on one side look down over Christchurch with the intention of getting some shots of the sunset and city lights.
I managed to get a bunch of sunset shots as well but it was not quite what I wanted so had to wait a little longer into the night for it to get just the right amount of darkness while still having the sunset glow over the alps.
Out of the two below, I found it hard to pick between the two but I think my favourite is the top one with the blue and brighter lights giving better contrast in it.
I tried to capture some of the stars over the city but it was a struggle with the light pollution, a graduated nd filter might of helped with blocking off more of the city lights so it wasn’t so over exposed.
Getting near the end we spotted a rock that was behind us and managed to muck around while playing how still can you be for twenty seconds.
Looking out over towards Diamond harbour with the glow of the port lighting up some of the hills behind it.
We also went for a drive through town and was actually going to take some photos of a cool new kids playground and spotted some fire twirling people, which was hard to capture with the night time and flames. It looked quite fun but I think I would catch myself on fire the first time I tried it.
All these were taken before ten o’clock so I guess there is one bonus for coming into winter time where its dark early, and I’m starting to get a hang of more of the camera features to get it to do what I want.
